Chiang Mai is a city well known for it’s abundance of temples and expansive markets. You also may know of it’s more touristy but what you may not know about Chiang Mai is it has a very impressive cafe scene. About 10 minutes outside of the Old City area you’ll find Nimmanhaemin Road. This street and it’s many soi’s (side-streets) are packed tightly with small shops and world class cafes, restaurants, and hotels. Here’s some of the very best cafes in Nimmanhaemin to grab some coffee or a drink, get some work done, and have a good conversation.
Rustic & Blue
Probably the best restaurant in all of Chiang Mai, if not all of Thailand. Rustic & Blue takes a fresh approach to California inspired cuisine. They serve and extensive menu of inventive breakfast dishes and smoothies. The carefully decorated space is perfect for relaxing, socializing with like-minded souls or getting to work in a quiet corner. The cafe has a lot of different seating options, as well as numerous wifi connections and power outlets. You’re sure to find a cozy spot that suits your needs here.
Ristr8to makes the best coffee in Chiang Mai without a doubt. Any true coffee lover will find a haven in this mecca of a coffee shop. They have several shops around town offering a variety of experiences. Our favorite is the “Ristr8to Lab” location. This is an open aired, nicely designed location, that features all of their incredible coffee drinks plus experimental and coffee-based alcoholic drinks. Their baristas are winners of the World Latte Art Championship and make 2nd to none beautiful creations. While in Chiang Mai we often came here to work for a few hours and savor some of the tastiest coffee we’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying.
This location shares a space with this fantastic little bakery so you can indulge in some delicious pastries and sandwiches as well.
Local Cafe – Think Park
Local Cafe is a very large and quite uniquely designed cafe and restaurant located in Think Park, across the street from Maya Mall. It’s created by the same people behind iBerry, which is another spot you have to check out in town. They have a great variety of food and drinks available as well as plenty of space to find the perfect spot to relax or get some work done.
Librarista Coffee – Salad Bar Cafe
Librarista is something special. On top of being a fantastically designed space with loads of books, great coffee, a killer salad bar, and space for the kids to run around outdoors, they have a koi fish pond built into the floor of it’s main room. They really have it all here. We often got cozy on their bean bags, enjoyed the atmosphere and worked away on our laptops for hours.
Italics & Rise
Stepping into Italics & Rise after walking the well worn streets of Chiang Mai feels like a breath of fresh air. It’s a very modernly designed restaurant situated inside of The Akyra 5 star hotel. It’s definitely a place you could go for fancy date night but we also found it a wonderful place to have a relaxing lunch and do some planning. With excellent food options and a one of a kind atmosphere, especially for Chiang Mai, we definitely recommend checking out Italics & Rise during your visit.
If you happen to find yourself in Thailand, please make sure you set aside enough time to explore Chiang Mai. Your trip truly won’t be complete without checking out some of the best cafes in Nimmanhaemin.
