3 Weeks at Panviman Chiang Mai
In early June, we visited Thailand for an extended trip. We were mostly based in the Nimman area of Chiang Mai, which is full of lovely shops and cafes. We stayed for two months total and loved every minute of it. But after a few weeks in the city we were happy to retreat to the mountains for a while. The highlight of our time in Thailand was visiting Panviman Chiang Mai Spa & Resort. The resort is located in Mae Rim, about 1 hour outside of Chiang Mai city. The resort is a total dream and super convenient to many natural attractions in the area. As usual, we found an amazing rate through Agoda and decided to stay for 3 weeks.
Arriving at Panviman Chiang Mai Spa & Resort
The hotel offers pick up from Chiang Mai Airport for a reasonable fee. Before arriving at the resort, it’s a good idea to stop by the 711 in Mae Rim to pick up any extra snacks and waters. Our toddler was sick so we decided to hire a private driver in hopes that our son’s experience would be a bit more comfortable. Our driver had a young son as well and was very concerned about our son’s cough. He gave us his card, suggested a few local doctors and told us if we needed a ride that we could call him anytime, day or night. All of the drivers that we met during our stay were extremely helpful. They opened our eyes to many places that we would not have found on our own. I highly suggest you book a local driver for day trips. Checking into the hotel was a breeze. We were each given juice and then greeted by two helpful and friendly managers. Before we knew if, we were being whisked off to our room via golf cart.
Breakfast at Panviman Chiang Mai
Breakfast was included every day and the spread was more than generous. The daily breakfast buffet included 2 types of congee with many different toppings, organic salad and beautiful vegetables from their garden. There was also an egg station, several breakfast meats and a few Thai dishes that changed daily. They had many bread options, our son discovered his love for cinnamon rolls during this trip). A great selection of fresh fruit and cereals. Juices, desserts, coffee drinks and speciality teas were all represented. The food here was perfect for anyone that is trying to follow a restricted diet. I was in the middle of doing an elimination diet and trying my hardest to stay gluten-free. The General Manager personally talked to the staff about my dietary restrictions. He even had the chef make me my own loaf of rice base, gluten-free bread to enjoy during breakfast. Every staff member that we met at Panviman Chiang Mai was absolutely lovely and extremely helpful, especially to our son. Daily high-fives from the front desk team became a ritual for him. And whenever the General Manager was working, he would surprise our son with a little present.
Panviman Chiang Mai Spa
The spa and private spa rooms are so relaxing and absolutely stunning. The spa area is located downhill from the main buildings of the resort, surrounded by a meditation cave and beautiful ponds. I especially enjoyed their detox massage. The massage focused on draining the lymphatic system. I was also fond of their dry and wet saunas. You can use the saunas free of charge during your stay, many times during our stay, while our toddler was napping, I would sneak down to the sauna for a hour. Always finishing just in time to trek back up the rather intimidating hill to meet the boys for lunch. The prices for spa treatments are high by Thai standards but right on par with Western prices.
Panviman Chiang Mai offers twice daily free shuttle rides into the old city, we took advantage of this service several times and each time meeting fascinating guests that became quick friends. It was great to have this service so we could easily go to doctors appointments in town and stock up on plenty of snacks for the little one. But we honestly never wanted to leave Panviman during our 3 weeks there.
The resort also had a nice little kid’s center with blocks and other toys readily available. A friendly parrot named Peter lived next to the kids’ area. Milo especially loved bringing Peter fruit in the morning. Panviman Chiang Mai also had a beautiful outdoor activities area with a giant chess set, a small putting area, a punching bag, archery, you can check out their hydroponics set up and a few other activities that I never got around to checking out. Our little guy created a new game, it was some kind of golf/chess hybrid and he loved practicing everyday after breakfast.
If you are looking for a child friendly spot in Thailand, I can not recommend Panviman Chiang Mai enough. Everyone at the resort went over and above our expectations. We truly had an amazing experience and can’t wait to return.
